Computing Statement of Intent
Intent:
Technology is changing the lives of everyone in the ever-changing world we live in. Through teaching computing therefore, we will equip our children to participate in this rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology.
At Mylor Bridge Primary School, we foster an educational philosophy where children are encouraged to do their best through our 4 ‘Learning Powers’:

By embedding these across the whole curriculum, children will develop lifelong values and skills to help them to succeed in life. By specifically embedding them into our computing curriculum, we can emphasise how important they are in becoming competent and confident within the digital world.
It is our intention to enable children to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information. We also focus on developing the skills necessary for children to be able to use information in an analytical, thoughtful and effective way.
Computing skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative and independent learners and it is our intention that children have every opportunity available to allow them to achieve this.
Aims of Computing
The National curriculum for computing and our skills progression aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Are confident in using code and can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including logic, algorithms and data representation.
- Can, when coding, analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
- Become confident in basic computing skills such as typing, mouse control and navigating a range of different computer systems.
- Can effectively communicate and can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
- Are able to use technology safely and responsibly to connect with others and the wider world and are competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology
Impact:
Through our well planned but adaptable approach to teaching, children will receive a highly engaging, high quality and practical computing education that will prepare them for life in the ‘real world’. They will not only develop the specific skills and knowledge to use technology in its current form, but will develop a flexible, creative and adaptable mind-set, preparing them to keep up with new technology as it inevitably and rapidly evolves.
